Keynote Speaker: Rev. Dr. Mary Westfall
9:15-10:00 AM
A Deeper Shade of Green: Reclaiming a Sense of the Sacred in Everyday Life
With concerns growing over the state of the environment, more and more people are changing their daily habits to reflect a desire to live more “lightly” and to become better stewards and caretakers of the earth. Recycling, reducing one’s carbon footprint and buying “green” are all becoming increasingly familiar aspects of our daily and communal life. Crucial as these practices are, these times also provide a rare opportunity for still more significant change to transform ourselves, institutions, communities, indeed our planet, as we reclaim a sense of the sacred and reconnect to core values that promote personal balance and global sustainability. This interactive presentation will provide participants the opportunity to learn more about the emerging “green revolution,” explore ways to connect to the sacredness of everyday life and create deeper more satisfying relationships with the natural world. What, indeed, might it mean for each of us to live a deeper shade of green?
As Sr. Minister, Community Church of Durham, Rev. Dr. Mary Westfall’s duties put her in touch with a range of ages, perspectives, needs and hopes. Mary was UNH’s Protestant Chaplain. Originally from Colorado, she and her family now make their home in Lee, NH.
