Keynote Speaker: Susan Poulin

9:15-10:00 AM
The Moose in ME, the Moose in You!
Ida LeClair, Certified Maine Life Guide

“If you’re from Maine, you know moose are not as dumb as they look. After all, they were smart enough to have a law passed to protect ’em. As I see it, we can learn a lot about
life from the moose. They’re good- natured, independent, and show up in the darnedest places! Plus, moose are wild, and everyone knows that wild women have more fun! So join me for the premiere of my brand new motivational speech, and learn how to run with the moose!”

Ida LeClair, the star of Ida: Woman Who Runs with the Moose, Ida’s Havin’ a Yard Sale!, A Very Ida Christmas, and A Visit with Ida, has been called “the funniest woman in Maine.” She’ll crack you up with her insights into love, life and the Pine Tree State of Mind. Ida is featured in Bruce Littlefield’s Garage Sale America and writes Just Ask Ida, the popular Maine humor blog and podcast on DownEast.com.

Note: Ida LeClair is the alter ego of award-winning writer, humorist and performer Susan Poulin. Susan has been a featured performer in The Mirth of Venus and The Mirth Canal at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, The Maine Festival, the Minneapolis Fringe Theater Festival and Portland, Maine’s Cassandra Project. Her work has been supported by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, the Maine Arts Commission and the Maine Humanities Council.

Session One: 10:15 to 11:30 AM

A. SOS – Sense of Style: Make Fashion Your Passion!
Jane Sydney
We all need some wardrobe assistance as we go 24/7 from home to office to soccer to special events. Learn to make a purchase decision based on a “yes” moment: It’s for you, not for a pushy salesperson or because it’s the hottest style or color – contrary to your size, shape or budget.

Jane Sydney has worked in the NYC retail industry for 7 years in wholesale clothing design and in Seacoast retail for the past 7+ years.

B. Vibrational Therapy
Cynthia Chatis and Joseph Carringer
Let the natural sounds of voice, the Indian shruti box and the Australian didgeridoo provide an opportunity to clear the clutter in your brain. You will relax in a calm state of refreshed energy.

The outstanding duo of Cynthia Chatis, flutist, voice extraordinaire, and Joseph Carringer, harmonic healer, team up to present a program that will leave you with a renewed sense of well being.

C. Sandwiching Generations – Caring Up and Down
Deb Turiano, MD
The Sandwich Generation – people who care for their aging parents while supporting their own children – is estimated to include 22% of all Americans. Fact: the average woman spends 17 years raising children and 18 years helping aging parents. With mounting stress on finances, emotions and relationships, what do we need to plan for? How do we start those conversations? How do we take care of ourselves?

Dr. Deb Turiano is the Seacoast Hospice Medical Director.

Session Two: 11:45 AM -1:00 PM

A. Greening Your Family
Lindsey Carmichael, MPH (Masters in Public Health)
Do you have questions about the safety of the products you buy at the grocery store each week? Many of the products lining the shelves of our grocery stores and “big box” retail outlets include ingredients that are linked to adverse health effects.

Lindsey Carmichael is the author of Greening Your Family, a reference guide to safe food, personal care and cleaning products. She will speak about the chemical contaminants that exist in many of our household consumable products, their impact on human health, and the safe alternatives that exist for your family.

B. Laughter Yoga
Jeanne B. Russell and Kathryn Thompson
Laughter is the best medicine! Laughter Yoga involves a series of very gentle stretches, breathing exercises and plenty of laughter. The class ends with a deep relaxation and you will leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. No yoga experience or yoga mat is required.

Jeanne B. Russell is a certified 500 hour Kripalu yoga instructor and certified Laughter Yoga instructor, and owner of Portsmouth Center for Yoga. Kathryn Thompson, educator and musician, lives in York, Maine and has been involved in the healing arts for 30 years.

C. Creating a Life You Love
Sher Kamman, Psy. D
Research in positive psychology shows that using your strengths and passions every day lowers stress and increases life satisfaction. But for many of us doing something positive for ourselves feels unrealistic and impossible. However, because of the brain’s ability to change, you can learn how to overcome negativity. You’ll leave this session with two techniques you can use to increase positivity in your life and the lives of your loved ones.

Dr. Sher Kamman is a licensed psychologist with more than thirty years of experience helping women, children and men recover and flourish after trauma.

Closing:  1:00 -1:30 PM

Meditation with Lily Sibley, E-RYT 500
Meditation offers relief from stress and tension, providing the balance you need in times of turmoil. Basic breath work and a guided meditation will help you discover the stillness and peace that lie within you – a calm, abiding self.

Lily Sibley is a certified Reiki Master and owner of Ocean Spirit Yoga. She has been teaching classical yoga in the Portsmouth area since 2002.
